December on Ocean Avenue has its own particular cold — the wind comes off the water and goes straight through a costume. So our Long Branch visits happen indoors, the boardwalk stays where it is, and everybody keeps their fingers.
Long Branch in December is a different town than Long Branch in July. Quieter, colder, and a good chunk of the housing stock is sitting empty. The parties that do happen tend to be either year-round families in the West End and the residential streets, or people who've come down for a week with relatives in tow.
That second group books differently. The date is fixed by whoever's flying in, the headcount is vague until three days out, and weekends are usually already gone. So we say the same thing every year: ask about a weekday. December weekday slots stay open long after the Saturdays are spoken for, and Santa doesn't charge more for a Wednesday.
Condo buildings near Pier Village work fine — tell us about the lobby desk and the elevator and we'll handle it. A building community room is often a better space than the unit for the one-hour packages.
